Bringing youth and community together
Big thanks to Lothian Relics Charity Digs for donating funds that that they raised during a metal detecting event in the Biggar area. This is really appreciated and will help us to support young people at BYP.
The group organise weekly metal detecting events across Scotland raise funds for charity.
We’re delighted to have been awarded £7,000 from the Scottish Children’s Lottery fund as part of their Chance to Flourish programme.
We are very excited to have received funding from South Lanarkshire’s Place Based Investment Fund for feasibility and design work for renovations on the building.
The renovations will aim make the Old Auction Ring more modern and welcoming, as well as improving energy efficiency.
After a competitive tendering process, Fraser/Livingstone Architects have been appointed to lead the design work. They recently ran a workshop with high school pupils to obtain their views on what they do and don’t like about the building, and will be using this draw up some design options.

Of course we have all seen what is happening to our European neighbours and so many of us have wondered what we can do.
We at Biggar Youth Project decided to collect for the Ukraine. We contacted a Polish contact in a charity with a branch in Edinburgh and were soon given a list of what to collect. We shared this and within a week the local and wider community were dropping off items. We took two large vans packaged and labelled to Edinburgh and were met with such warmth and kindness. Of course we stayed and helped out and listened to how the war was affecting them personally.
Thank you to everyone who donated items on the list. From the shop owner who went to the cash and carry to fill his van, the nearby villages and towns for having collection points, down to the pupil who arrived after lunch with a packet of plasters he had bought. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers, who just got on with the job in hand, even though some of them just happened to be passing by. Thank you to the pupils who gave their time and continue to give their spare change for us to donate.

BYP closed down when COVID arrived, and then the previous Project Co-ordinator, Sue, retired. there is a new Project Co-ordinator in place, Sharon. and if you need to get in touch then please do.
We are currently working on reopening for longer and bringing the best experience we can for all of our young people, and the wider community.
