New Year, New Building, New Programme!

After nearly a year of building work we are almost ready to relaunch activities at the OId Auction Ring. As well as our new-look building we have recruited some new staff to join Sharon and the team.

The building work should be complete in the next couple of weeks and new staff will be starting work shortly to get trained up and be ready to help us move into the building. We hope to be able to restart activities before the end of January.

Initially we will be running a similar programme to before the refurbishment to give everyone time to settle in. This will include lunchtime drop-in sessions with a range of snacks on offer, Friday afternoon activities, and after-school sessions from Monday – Thursday. The pool table will be coming back along with a new table football set up, and the VR and computer gaming equipment.

Funding permitting, we aim to ramp this up to include a range of evening sessions including offering an early evening meal, and then look at including weekend and holiday activities as well as continuing to run step-up sessions for young people moving up from P7 to High School. We are also considering running “on the road” events in the villages around Biggar and looking at how we can support young people moving from school into work.

If you have any ideas for activities that you would like to see at BYP, please use our Contact Form to let us know, send us a message via Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok or email admin@biggaryouthproject.org.uk.

We know it’s been a long haul to get this stage, and would like to thank all of the young people, our staff, supporters and the community in Biggar for their patience and support. We hope hope you’re as excited about our relaunch as we are and that once we are finally open again it will have been worth the wait!

Renewco fund IT upgrades

We were delighted to receive a wee Christmas present from the Renewco M74 West Small Grants Programme which has provided £500 for IT upgrades. These will be invaluable as we move back into the our refurbished building. Thank you to Renewco for this support. Looking forward to being back in the buidling in the New Year with this upgraded equipment!

BYP is coming back!

In the first of our BYP On the Road events, we will be running a session of Friday afternoon activities on 23rd Feb from 1:45 – 5pm at the hall next to Arcadia Music shop (Snooker and Social Club Hall). You must have filled in a membership form to attend. Sharon and the team look forward to welcoming everyone for fun and snacks!

New Building News

Our new building is becoming real. Here are the plans for the new build. Keep checking our socials for updates.

While we are closed we will be visiting communities where our young people live and keeping in touch with them. Cook offs, cinema nights and games are all in the pipeline.

If you live in a town or village that is part of the rural Clydesdale Community get in touch as we may be coming to you.

Warm Spaces

The cost-of-living crisis is expected to put 16.4 million people in fuel poverty this winter, with many forced to choose between food and warmth. Community organisations across the UK have already seen a soar in demand for their services and anticipate this number to further rise over the winter months, with many people expected to look for their support for the first time.
We need your help to ensure that we can fulfil our promise to provide a safe, free, warm and welcoming space for individuals and families to keep encouraged and out of the cold. Your support will assist us with the running costs of keeping our lights on and our heat up, paying our staff for additional hours and providing our volunteers with everything they need to offer the warm hospitality and essentials that we seek to provide to anyone attending our Warm Welcome space; tea, coffee and/or a bite to eat. Please consider giving generously so that we can provide the best possible support to our community in their time of need. If you can’t give financially at this time and would like to offer to volunteer your time, please contact us at the centre. Thank you for your love and support. If you would like to find out more about our Warm Welcome space, or discuss how you can support us financially, please get in touch
